Here's another one from The Scientist.  This one is about life as an organism that only breeds once and then dies.

Love Button - Cut Myself Free

Okay, I've now mixed three songs in five years for this album.  At this rate, we'll be having a combination record release/retirement party.

What Entropy Does

Here's a new one from my upcoming album "Departures".  It's a highly bizarre song for me - a straight up, not at all ironic, country tearjerker.

The Butterfly Effect

Here's another one from The Scientist.  This is actually me covering an old Love Button song.  The Scientist will be out soon - cover art is now done, and I'm basically just waiting on a test pressing, and then there will be a few days before CDBaby gets it in the system to sell.  I expect to release it within a couple of weeks, though!

Thirty Second Songs - New Tooth

Another thirty second song.  This one is an ode to my new temporary crown.

Thirty Seconds of Fuck Yeah

Here's a super-fast little thing I whipped out for a thirty second song contest.  No rules, except that the song has to be at or under thirty seconds.  This is thirty on the nose.

The Scientist

The title track off my new album.  The album tells the story of a scientist who is depressed and escapes into a series of scientific fantasies, gradually losing touch with reality.  Sort of a Pink Floyd's The Wall for the pocket protector set.  Not autobiographical.

Here's a little instrumental bit I did for a student who's working on a spy film and asked me for a bit of music.  It's still rough around the edges, but I like it.

EBA attacks "Motivational Speaker"

My friend EBA of the Shapeless Mass Podcast (podcast.shapelessmass.com) decided to go crazy on one of my old electronic songs.  We keep meaning to do a collaborative thing, but have just never gotten around to it.  Someday...

Chicken Tractor - Body and Soul

This past weekend I had a bluegrass band from Davis called Chicken Tractor over to the house to record.  They are excellent musicians, and a good time was had by all.  It was my first experience recording in the style of a lot of old-timey bands, where you basically set up just a couple of mics and the musicians control the mix by their proximity to the mics - a mix that they can't actually hear while they're playing.  It requires a great deal of skill, but they are easily up to the task.

So anyway, without further adieu...

This Is How It Always Ends

This is a song I started work on a long time ago and just finished up today.  It doesn't fit well with any of the 4(!) album concepts I've got sitting in my head at the moment, so it's just going to be standing on its own for a while.

TylerK's arrangement of "Whore!"

YET ANOTHER from the ML Delicate Arrangement contest.  I'll do something new one of these days, I promise.

My arrangement of Picnic ov Lov's "Creepy Crawlers"

Yet another from the Delicate Arrangement contest, here's my arrangement of Picnic ov Love's song "Creepy Crawlers".   I went for a Mr. Bungle sort of interpretation, which was a ton of fun to do.

Another one from the SA ML Delicate Arrangement contest, this is Mr. Ruffles' arrangement of my song "Helen".

Here's another entry from the SA Delicate Arrangement contest of a few months back - FFT's arrangement of my song "Whore".

Sorry I've been gone for so long, everybody, I was working in Panama for a couple of months.

The Ugly American

This is a retake of a song I posted a long time ago.  It's been speeded up considerably and taken up a couple of whole steps, and now prominently features the ukulele.  It's just as depressing, but now it sounds more upbeat which creates a cognitive dissonance that I like quite a bit.

Oh, while I've got your attention - I finally figured out what to do for that album I've been working on.  I'm not going to be back home until December, but once there I feel like the path forward is FINALLY clear!

Delicate Arrangement part 1: Beau Hall and me

Here's the first of a series of songs I'm going to post from an SA contest.  The idea was basically that you get a vocal track from a song you've never heard and you have to build an arrangement for it from scratch.  This is me doing the music for a song by Beau Hall, of Atlanta's Beau Hall and the Magnificent 7.  It was a ridiculous amount of fun to do, and I think it turned out pretty well.
